The Use of Solar Panels Help To Prevent Global Warming

According to reliable sources, ten percent of our nation’s electrical needs are generated by solar panels. To carry it a step further, solar panel use helps to prevent global warming. As with any other new product now available, the initial costs are high, and as those needs are met, the price comes down. Although that hasn’t entirely happened yet with solar panels, each new day brings changes and the prices will come down.

In Ohio several universities keep studying and improving solar panels, and it won’t be long until everyone wants them for the sole purpose of cutting their electric bill in half. The high price is still the strongest barrier but when competitors keep learning and improving just like the universities, we all know competition brings the price down faster than anything else.

Places like the Veterans Administration hospital in Loma Linda, California have invested greatly to bring solar panels to their facility. The panels aren’t in place at this moment but the parking structures are, and it won’t be long until the hospital will be saving hundreds and hundreds of dollars on their utilities.

When large facilities like the VA invest in anything you know it will soon become the trend of the land, and you’ll see many business and private homes making the same investment. How long the tax credits will last to those who purchase solar panels, it’s hard to say. Many are skeptical of anything that the government is claiming, but you can’t avoid seeing the results all around us.

If you get the chance to talk to someone who has invested in solar panels, ask them if they have saved any money. Most, if not all have stated that they have even been able to sell some of their electricity back to their local electric company. It won’t take long for that to take hold.

When you decide that you want to jump on the bandwagon, contact one of the many local solar panel companies. Ask to speak to their customers, and they will surely have many satisfied customers. Appreciate the fact that the company has taken it upon themselves to invest their time and money to change the way America thinks about solar panels and global warming.

You’ll find that when you educate yourself, you will be able to make important decisions using the facts that solar panels will help to reduce the effects of climate change.

Plan for Solar Electric Power

Before you start your plans for solar electric power, educate yourself in what the changes will mean for you. You may want to be totally self-sufficient and at the same time save money on your utilities. Changing to solar electric power will do both of those things and at the same time you’ll be saving our country by becoming ‘green.’

The best time to decide what is needed will be when the home is built, but many are going ahead and changing out the of electric power to solar electric power to achieve the same success as a new home will provide. So in both new homes and older homes, you should first check the windows and make sure they are double paned. Over time window and doorframes become weathered and aged and they need to be draft proof. Attic insulation also needs to be checked and either upgraded or replaced.

After you’ve checked and find that your home is up to standards, plan your solar electric power. You may need a professional to achieve the greatest success. If you’re planning on doing the project yourself, there are some things that you’ll need. Things like a battery meter and a start-stop switch for the solar power generator.

The professional suggest more outlets, and some could be low voltage outlets that will work well for devices that require little energy. Phone answering machines and fans work well with those. You’ll be able to put more outlets outside and in places like workshops, detached garages, or even gazebos. Place the outlets where more work will take place instead of lighting up the entire area, like desks or workbenches.

Power tools, lawn mowers, and other outside devices will require the outside outlets. Most plugs work on 120 volt power, and the stronger electric needs of 220 or 240 volt could be handled with your former electric power, at least until they find ways to convert the solar electric power to that higher voltage. Then you will be totally self-sufficient, and your utility company may be coming to you to purchase your electricity.

When you decide on solar power, keep that in mind whenever you purchase items that will run off that power. Just remember converted solar power is still electricity and it takes a person familiar with electricity to process the photovoltaic collection panels and battery storage units for use in your home outlets.

What is Solar Energy?

Solar Energy is the ability to create heat or electrical power from the sun and is referred to as solar energy. It is also clean and doesn’t pollute our environment.
There are two types of solar energy:

No. 1 = Solar thermal conversion uses the sun to create heat and that turns into electrical power. Solar means of the sun; thermal means of heat; and conversion means to change from one form to another.

No. 2 = Photovoltaic conversion. Photo means light; Voltaic means producing electricity.

Solar Thermal Conversion use reflectors or mirrors that concentrate the sun’s light to extremely intense heat. It works in the same way as a magnifying glass that can start a fire when held over flammable material. The reflectors or mirrors direct the sunlight on to containers that are filled with liquid and sometimes they use water. However the water does not retain the heat as well as other liquid.

They heat the liquid to high temperatures and that produces steam. Then the steam turns a turbine and the turning motion creates electricity. Electricity generators, windmills, and even nuclear power plants generate energy in the same way. However windmills use wind to create the turning, and nuclear power plants use coal or gas to create the energy.

Photovoltaic Conversion creates a cell that turns to electric energy when it is exposed to light and it works similar to a flashlight battery with a positive and negative charge. They usually have panels that have two layers of material with a positive and a negative and when a wire connects the two it creates electricity.

The amount of electricity generated depends on how much is exposed to the sun, how strong the sun is, the time of day, weather and where it is located. For instance the solar power cell creates more electricity when it is near the equator than the ones in the arctic regions.

The improvements made in recent years and the solar energy is becoming more popular as people become more familiar with the process. One business that plans to change its entire operation is the Veterans Administration Hospital in Loma Linda, California. They have constructed strong metal beams all across their parking lots. The beams face to the south and west and they will be installing solar energy and creating their own power plant.

To make your own investment on a smaller scale, contact a business online and make the same decisions to control your own future.

Solar Power For Your Home: Still On The Fence?

Homeowners who want to reduce the cost of energy consumption within their home have just two options. The first option being the heavy monitoring of energy usage within their homes. This often means double and triple checking to ensure that lights are turned off when people leave the room, TVs are on only when they are being used, and even ensuring things are unplugged when they are going to remain unused for long periods of time. The second option homeowners have when they want to reduce energy costs and consumption is to have a solar power system installed within their home. The first option while noble, isn't always practical.

Solar power systems dramatically reduce even a large family's electrical bill and is great for the environment. Some homeowners however ask themselves "is solar power really worth it?" While it certainly costs a pretty penny to convert sunlight to energy and the initial cost of having a solar powered system installed can be expensive, the ends completely justifies the means. While it's true that material handling, manufacturing, production efficiency and installation drive up the initial price of solar power systems, homeowners will see a dramatic reduction in costs almost immediately and will feel better knowing that they are helping to reduce waste by utilizing a green technology.

Homeowners who have been on the fence for some time about whether or not to have a solar power system installed on their home can rest easy knowing that the technology has advanced rapidly over the past few years which in turn has driven costs down considerably. These falling costs have made it possible for even homeowners operating on small budgets to have a modest system installed. While these modest systems don't completely take a homeowner off the grid they still reduce monthly electricity costs significantly. Upfront expenses for installation used to cost anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000. These days however a modest system can be installed for around $5000 which gives families of any size the chance to go green and to reduce costs.

Homeowners who decide to make the leap and have a solar power system installed in their home will have a number of different types of systems to choose from. Some of these will simply reduce costs but keep them connected to their electric company. The more expensive and upscale systems will allow homeowners to go completely off the grid and function independently away from any electric company. The best solar power systems will even allow homeowners to harness energy during the day for usage at night and for times when there is no traditional power available.

There has never been a better time for homeowners to have a solar power system installed in their home. There was once a time when the cons outweighed the pros but that time has long since past. Many of the companies that set up solar power systems for homes are now offering special deals that can help homeowners take advantage of even lower than normal prices. The time to act is now a if you own a home.

Hybrid Solar Power Plants: Reducing Costs And Going Green

While solar power is generally considered a form of "green" energy, those involved with the technology are always looking for ways to make it both more efficient and more environmentally responsible. This is especially true with regards to persons who work in the power plant industry. Much like hybrid cars power plants are now being converted into hybrid plants that utilize both solar and traditional power methods. This is being done in an effort to slowly transition power plants over to solar power and to make them more environmentally friendly and cost efficient as well.

While conversion is still relatively expensive the conversion pays for itself over a number of years at the byproducts of creating consumable power are far less than they are in standard power plants. This means not only a cleaner and healthier environments but lower costs for consumers over time as well. In some cases after conversion has been completed a plant will utilize 25% to 50% solar power thereby reducing costs and waste dramatically.

In plants that have been converted sunlight is harvested to create hot high-pressure steam which is then used to rotate the turbines that generate electricity. The goal of scientists and others who work in the solar power and power plant industries is to reduce the cost of generating electricity so as to be more environmentally friendly and to dramatically reduce costs of energy consumption for consumers. Experts advise caution however to those who believe this technology or 100% conversion is coming in the near future. These experts have explained that the technology is extremely young, complicated and somewhat expensive but as technology grows that will change. Most experts also agree that consumers won't see dramatic savings from these types of conversions for another decade or two and realize that while consumers may be impatient with regards to this technology, when it finally arrives their patience will be well rewarded.

Experts also want consumers to know that although hybrid power plants utilizing solar power are far greener than those that do not, they are not completely clean. As mentioned previously however, as solar power technology continues to grow power plants will become greener and greener as time goes on. These same experts are also waiting for the cost of solar technology to drop so that it can be more widely adopted and utilized.

The Future Of Solar Power: Delivery From Space

While the technology surrounding solar power is constantly improving, many consumers and even scientists are looking for the next big breakthrough in solar power efficiency and delivery. While those who develop solar power technologies already know this many consumers are unaware that, that breakthrough is here. Solar power gathered in space rather than here on earth is set to provide the type of renewable energy that many consumers and even manufacturers have been waiting for.
While this small part of solar power technology is still in its infancy many solar power engineers believe that not only will collection of solar power become more efficient and easy but so will delivery and its usage. As this article is being written researchers around the globe are are testing equipment in space that collects solar energy and transfers it back to earth by way of microwaves and/or lasers.

This new technology is poised to not only make current solar power technologies more efficient and affordable but to also deliver solar power to remote areas of the world. This means that areas that have been affected by natural disasters and poverty will have access to power that will allow residents and rescue/relief teams to do their job more efficiently and to do things that were previously impossible without power.

By utilizing microwaves and lasers to deliver solar energy to Earth, it negates the need for stored solar power and provides instantaneous access to power needed for the necessities of life and for emergency situations. This method also allows for constant uninterrupted delivery of solar power as well. An uninterrupted power source means better living for residents of all areas on the planet and more effective means of relief and help for those areas affected by disasters and/or tragedies.

Currently this technology utilizes only small satellites that generate just enough energy for a small village but engineers have the goal of putting a large structure in space that can both gather and deliver enough energy to power even the largest cities on the planet. No one is certain when his goal will be met though engineers are confident that it will be met at some point in the not-too-distant future. When this goal is reached not only will it be possible to deliver power to any area on the planet but it should also dramatically reduce the costs associated with solar power as well.

Solar Energy Systems

Many people have become more energy efficient in recent months and are looking into solar energy systems to decrease their utility bills. Much has been said and many are simply confused and want more information before they make their final decision. Without a doubt, solar energy is the cleanest source of electricity that’s available today and it makes sense because that energy comes directly from the sun.

Who can benefit the most from the sun’s energy? Those who live in the sun belt like California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, the southwest deserts and the Rocky Mountain States. States where the sun shines the greater part of every year will receive the most benefit from their solar energy systems.

The most common solar energy systems capture the sunlight and convert it into electricity. The photovoltaic (PV) systems emit no greenhouse gases, and the more we use them, the more we slow global warming. The advantages are numerous and the most popular are low maintenance and the ability of generating electricity for many years to come. Then when you add lower utility bills, the advantages grow far above any disadvantages.

Listed on the plus side, several states offer tax credits and/or rebates, including federal, state and local tax credits.

One of the questions you’ll have to answer for yourself is do you want to just lower your electric bills, or will you use the solar energy systems to completely do away with the local utility company? There are systems that use an independent system that is actually off the grid. They provide practically all or at least most of your electricity. These systems are common in rural areas where utilities are very high.

They usually have a battery system for use at night or in cloudy weather. Many also use generators as a backup.

When you have reached the stage where you need to talk to an expert before that final decision, it would probably be best for you to contact a certified solar electrical contractor. They can help you determine how much solar power system you will need and will give you an estimate how much you should save in the long run.

The company will also tell you the best location of your solar power system. The majority of users install the systems on their rooftops. However there are other systems available such as ground mounted and integrated shade structure like an awning, or one that is incorporated into roofing materials.

The solar power systems have been improved steadily and many are choosing these systems as opposed to other systems such as wind.

Orange County Solar Power: Stickers for Solar Panels?

Whenever a new product comes on the marketplace, there’s always someone who will invent ways to increase their productivity. In the case of solar panels, they call them stickers. They’re made of polymer film and can be installed on your existing solar panels. They emboss the stickers with microstructures that will bend the light and use it to reflect and boost the amount of energy the panels use, as much as 10%. Otherwise this light would just reflect off the panels and be of no use.
The preferred way to use the stickers is to install them when the solar power units are still at the factory. They can also be installed on your solar panels after installation, and they can be added with the same rate of benefits.

You may ask if the addition of the stickers will increase the energy of the solar panels. Yes they do enhance the solar panels. They also claim that the stickers are cost effective, and should last for the duration of the solar panels themselves.
There are other additives on the market such as solar trackers and micro inverters that will add to the efficiency of the solar panels, they can both be added at the factory or after the panels have been installed.

As you strive to improve your footprint on this old world, you’ll want to keep track of all of the improvements that will improve your ability to control your costs. When a new product that works alongside your solar panel and increases its productivity by 10% that will definitely show up in your utility bills. Say your electric bills runs in the neighborhood of $200 per month and probably higher in the summer months, when you decrease your bill by $20 that should lower the total costs of the entire solar panels.

Check with the professionals as you debate the ins and outs of solar power. They can explain how the solar panels work and what would be most advantageous for your property. They’ll come to your home and give you a written estimate of your costs, the types of rebates available from the government, and how much energy you will save.

Go online and you’ll find many local companies, and ask several for quotes. Ask for references, and you may want to also contact your utility companies. The Better Business Bureau may be helpful in suggesting good competent licensed businesses. Get everything in writing and read their contracts.

Solar Power Becoming More Affordable

Like any new product once it becomes popular, the prices go down. Think back to televisions especially color. A twelve-inch TV would cost hundreds of dollars. Now they practically give them away. In time, solar power will be cheaper, easier to install, and competition from all of the companies investing will drive the costs down. That’s how it works in this country. People investing in people, and when the government moves aside and let the public buy the products, you’ll find they are cheaper and more affordable.

Ever since their inception people have liked the idea of solar power, actually much more popular than the wind. After all, the sun always shines even on a cloudy day. It’s always there, and for us to ignore that truth, the longer it will take us to jump on board.

The twenty-year pay off plan scared many people and no wonder. Who wants to be obligated for twenty years? However with all the breakthroughs, the range is between three to five years. The huge advantage of solar power is that you may be self-sufficient long before that. Especially when you figure in reduced utility bills.

Unsightly was another drawback. People didn’t want those ugly things on top of their roof. Today they place them on the backside of the property, a back yard shed, or any other place that the sun shines for the largest part of the day. They can hide them out of sight, and only the utility company knows.

You’ll know too when the utility company sends you a credit on your monthly statement. They’ll owe you, imagine that. Soon there will be investors who see the potential of solar power especially when you live in a sun state like California. They’ll take the ideas and run with them. They’ll create new ideas and we’ll laugh at the old solar power collecting systems.

What they need to do though is create them in this country, not abroad. The businesses that operate today are promoting themselves and claiming that their products are better, nicer looking, and better affordable. They’re silent as well, and your quiet time will remain quiet and they won’t blast you like those wind machines. They won’t kill a bunch of birds either.

So what are you waiting for? Go online and find a local company that focuses on solar power, and when the utility bills start coming in with zero balances you’ll brag to your neighbors and convince them to buy solar as well.
