Solar Power Effectiveness & Initial Costs

One of the most common things that deters homeowners from purchasing a solar power system for their home is the initial cost of purchase/installation. The second most common thing that makes it difficult for homeowners to move forward with such a purchase is fear of a low-quality system due to having to work with a modest budget. These fears however are rooted more in myth and misinformation than in fact.

The truth of the matter is that while the size of the budget a home owner has certainly plays a factor in what type of solar power system they have access to the smaller or less luxurious solar power systems on the market are nothing to scoff at. Even the most affordable modern solar power systems will help homeowners reduce their energy bills, do a great deal for the environment, and earn them tax credits and rebates.

When it comes to the initial cost of a new solar power system homeowners are often surprised to learn that though the initial cost may appear to be high the system begins paying for itself immediately with extremely low monthly energy bills, big tax credits and even state and federal rebates. Moreover some government agencies will actually help pay for part of the initial cost and in some cases nearly the entire thing when a homeowner qualifies for certain programs.

Should you be interested in a new solar power system for your home but have some lingering trepidations because of cost and/or effectiveness please be sure to contact us with your concerns and will be happy to ease them for you!

The Use of Solar Panels Help To Prevent Global Warming

According to reliable sources, ten percent of our nation’s electrical needs are generated by solar panels. To carry it a step further, solar panel use helps to prevent global warming. As with any other new product now available, the initial costs are high, and as those needs are met, the price comes down. Although that hasn’t entirely happened yet with solar panels, each new day brings changes and the prices will come down.

In Ohio several universities keep studying and improving solar panels, and it won’t be long until everyone wants them for the sole purpose of cutting their electric bill in half. The high price is still the strongest barrier but when competitors keep learning and improving just like the universities, we all know competition brings the price down faster than anything else.

Places like the Veterans Administration hospital in Loma Linda, California have invested greatly to bring solar panels to their facility. The panels aren’t in place at this moment but the parking structures are, and it won’t be long until the hospital will be saving hundreds and hundreds of dollars on their utilities.

When large facilities like the VA invest in anything you know it will soon become the trend of the land, and you’ll see many business and private homes making the same investment. How long the tax credits will last to those who purchase solar panels, it’s hard to say. Many are skeptical of anything that the government is claiming, but you can’t avoid seeing the results all around us.

If you get the chance to talk to someone who has invested in solar panels, ask them if they have saved any money. Most, if not all have stated that they have even been able to sell some of their electricity back to their local electric company. It won’t take long for that to take hold.

When you decide that you want to jump on the bandwagon, contact one of the many local solar panel companies. Ask to speak to their customers, and they will surely have many satisfied customers. Appreciate the fact that the company has taken it upon themselves to invest their time and money to change the way America thinks about solar panels and global warming.

You’ll find that when you educate yourself, you will be able to make important decisions using the facts that solar panels will help to reduce the effects of climate change.

Solar Power For Your Home: Still On The Fence?

Homeowners who want to reduce the cost of energy consumption within their home have just two options. The first option being the heavy monitoring of energy usage within their homes. This often means double and triple checking to ensure that lights are turned off when people leave the room, TVs are on only when they are being used, and even ensuring things are unplugged when they are going to remain unused for long periods of time. The second option homeowners have when they want to reduce energy costs and consumption is to have a solar power system installed within their home. The first option while noble, isn't always practical.

Solar power systems dramatically reduce even a large family's electrical bill and is great for the environment. Some homeowners however ask themselves "is solar power really worth it?" While it certainly costs a pretty penny to convert sunlight to energy and the initial cost of having a solar powered system installed can be expensive, the ends completely justifies the means. While it's true that material handling, manufacturing, production efficiency and installation drive up the initial price of solar power systems, homeowners will see a dramatic reduction in costs almost immediately and will feel better knowing that they are helping to reduce waste by utilizing a green technology.

Homeowners who have been on the fence for some time about whether or not to have a solar power system installed on their home can rest easy knowing that the technology has advanced rapidly over the past few years which in turn has driven costs down considerably. These falling costs have made it possible for even homeowners operating on small budgets to have a modest system installed. While these modest systems don't completely take a homeowner off the grid they still reduce monthly electricity costs significantly. Upfront expenses for installation used to cost anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000. These days however a modest system can be installed for around $5000 which gives families of any size the chance to go green and to reduce costs.

Homeowners who decide to make the leap and have a solar power system installed in their home will have a number of different types of systems to choose from. Some of these will simply reduce costs but keep them connected to their electric company. The more expensive and upscale systems will allow homeowners to go completely off the grid and function independently away from any electric company. The best solar power systems will even allow homeowners to harness energy during the day for usage at night and for times when there is no traditional power available.

There has never been a better time for homeowners to have a solar power system installed in their home. There was once a time when the cons outweighed the pros but that time has long since past. Many of the companies that set up solar power systems for homes are now offering special deals that can help homeowners take advantage of even lower than normal prices. The time to act is now a if you own a home.

Solar Power Becoming More Affordable

Like any new product once it becomes popular, the prices go down. Think back to televisions especially color. A twelve-inch TV would cost hundreds of dollars. Now they practically give them away. In time, solar power will be cheaper, easier to install, and competition from all of the companies investing will drive the costs down. That’s how it works in this country. People investing in people, and when the government moves aside and let the public buy the products, you’ll find they are cheaper and more affordable.

Ever since their inception people have liked the idea of solar power, actually much more popular than the wind. After all, the sun always shines even on a cloudy day. It’s always there, and for us to ignore that truth, the longer it will take us to jump on board.

The twenty-year pay off plan scared many people and no wonder. Who wants to be obligated for twenty years? However with all the breakthroughs, the range is between three to five years. The huge advantage of solar power is that you may be self-sufficient long before that. Especially when you figure in reduced utility bills.

Unsightly was another drawback. People didn’t want those ugly things on top of their roof. Today they place them on the backside of the property, a back yard shed, or any other place that the sun shines for the largest part of the day. They can hide them out of sight, and only the utility company knows.

You’ll know too when the utility company sends you a credit on your monthly statement. They’ll owe you, imagine that. Soon there will be investors who see the potential of solar power especially when you live in a sun state like California. They’ll take the ideas and run with them. They’ll create new ideas and we’ll laugh at the old solar power collecting systems.

What they need to do though is create them in this country, not abroad. The businesses that operate today are promoting themselves and claiming that their products are better, nicer looking, and better affordable. They’re silent as well, and your quiet time will remain quiet and they won’t blast you like those wind machines. They won’t kill a bunch of birds either.

So what are you waiting for? Go online and find a local company that focuses on solar power, and when the utility bills start coming in with zero balances you’ll brag to your neighbors and convince them to buy solar as well.

Saving Money on Energy Star Appliances

Saving money today is a common topic. We hear about ‘going green’ using energy wisely, and it goes on and on and is even in politics. Many simply don’t have the time, money, or inclination to junk their current appliances just to buy Energy Star appliances. How is that going to save money? By spending more? It just doesn’t make sense, and not until it hits them in their pocket books will they sit up and take notice.

It is hitting all of us in our pocket books, and we need to strive to get our families educated in saving energy on the appliances we have. But when the appliances need to be replaced we should definitely strive to replace them with the Energy Star promise.

Before we trade our appliances in there are ways to save money on our utilities, and the most prominent one is to use them less. That’s not always possible, but we should at least try. Things like washing only full loads of dishes or clothing can help. Washing your clothing in cold water also saves on hot water that is expensive. Not heating or cooling rooms that are rarely used is another way to save including setting your thermostat at couple of degrees below the comfortable temperature. Lower in winter, and higher in summer.

In the past when we got cold we put on a sweater, but today keeping the temperature set higher or lower is so easy to do that we don’t think about it. We like our creature comfort no matter the cost.

So how much can we expect to save by purchasing Energy Star Appliances? Let’s take a look at the figures. Energy Star washing machines can save between 18-25 gallons of water per load. The normal washer uses approximately 40 gallons to wash just one load. Energy

Star dishwashers save about 3 gallons, a 25% savings every time you use them. The average dishwasher uses approximately 12 gallons of hot water.

Energy Star heaters and air conditioners save approximately 20% and possibly more depending on the extreme weather. It is also estimated that your heater and air conditioner will cost approximately 40% of your entire energy bill.

So it simply makes sense to get your energy costs down one way or another.  Too often we make no conscious effort to control the energy we use, and maybe we all need to at least be aware of the things that will save us money. Money we can use on more important things that are necessary in life.

Solar Panels on a Cloudy

Will solar panels still collect energy on a cloudy day? Does the sun still shine on a cloudy day? Of course it does, however the cloudier the day, the less energy your solar panel will collect. There are those who claim that when there are a few clouds that allow the sun to peak through, the solar panels actually collect more energy.

Why is that, you ask? They say the panels collect the direct sunlight when it peaks through the clouds, but they also collect their power from the sun’s reflection on the clouds. Areas across the United States that work best are the ones where they get the most sunlight throughout the year.

What types of solar panels are there? Actually two: the grid-tied system that will allow you to use the current and the unused power goes into the utility grid; Independent system meaning ‘off the grid’ provides almost all of your electricity, these use batteries to store the power. The second type, sometimes have generators that are used as backup in an emergency.

Who would best benefit from solar panels? Those where electricity is at its peak and costs over $125 per month. Also those in rural areas where electricity is very expensive and may not even be available.

Many states offer incentive programs and if the programs are still in effect after all the recent problems, they claim they will be there through the year of 2016, but check them out as you consider solar panels.

How long will they last? Many are under warranties for twenty years, and do-it-yourselfers solar panels should last as long if they are installed correctly.

How much do they cost? Depends of course on the size of your panels. Some claim they can be paid for in two to three years. Others claim it takes around seventeen years to pay them off.

Who will benefit the most? Where electricity is very expensive (and they’re going up every month). Where the sun shines year round and the southwest gets the most. Those who plan to sell their home in a couple of years because the panels will raise their home’s value.

Aren’t they ugly? You should install them where you get the most sunshine on your property, even on a backyard shed.

Where can you find more information? To have your questions answered, go online, there are numerous web sites that will answer most questions. And there are many questions, and they all need answers, so find those answers as you do your own research.

Solar Power: Adding Value To Your Home

Homeowners install solar power systems in their homes primarily to reduce or eliminate the costs associated with using electricity in their home. Those homeowners who can afford to do so often have a top-of-the-line power system installed in their home that completely takes them "off the grid" and eliminates their electricity bill altogether. However even individuals operating on a smaller budget can have a solar power system installed that will reduce their electric bill by a large percentage.
What you don't hear a lot about is the appreciation value that a solar power system gives to any home to which it's installed in. Homes with solar power systems carry considerably more value than do homes without. What this essentially means is that any homeowner selling a home with a solar power system in it will likely sell the home for much more than someone would selling the exact same home without a solar power system in. If you're on the fence about solar power for you home consider the added financial value a solar power system carries with it.

If you're looking to both reduce the cost of energy consumption and add value to your home consider installing a solar power system. We can assist you with that and we urge you to contact us should you have any questions about the systems.

Space Based Solar Power

The technology surrounding solar power has grown considerably in the last couple of decades and shows no signs of slowing down or becoming stagnant. Scientists are working around-the-clock and discovering new ways with which to capture and convert the suns energy into usable power.
One of the hypothetical technologies being seriously looked at by solar scientists is space-based solar power. Space based solar power or "SPS" aims to capture solar energy in space utilizing panels on satellites. This energy would then be transferred down to earth in a usable form of household energy. This technology holds a lot of hope for a huge leap in solar power as the suns energy is unaffected by seasons, weather, or day and night when it's captured and converted out in space.
In the coming years and decades we expect there to be big breakthroughs were SPS is concerned. As this technology moves from hypothesis to workable theory and application it will only become even more promising and efficient.

Should you have any questions about space based solar power or about solar power systems in general please be sure to contact us so that we may be of assistance!

Tips For Using Electricity Efficiently

While utilizing solar power is the most efficient way to reduce energy costs and save money on electricity, there many other ways to use energy efficiently and reduce electricity usage in cases where a family or individual may not be able to afford a solar power system.

The vast majority of electrical use in a home comes from air-conditioning and heater use. Both of these can quickly run up an electric bill because families normally run them for long periods of time and sometimes leave them on while they're away at work and school. In actuality however this is a complete waste of energy and money. While it's true that a heater or AC unit will need to be on in order to make a home comfortable, individuals can do things like set timers on their heaters and AC's and can also make sure window shutters, blinds, and draperies are closed over windows during the times that they are not home. Doing so will help keep heat out of the home during the summer and help trap heat inside the home during the winter. This means that they'll need to run their heater or air conditioning far less than they would had they not made sure their windows were recovered properly.

By running air-conditioning and heating only when people are in a home and by keeping windows covered and closed properly homeowners can reduce the cost of energy consumption and their electric bill by noticeable figures right away. Dressing for the season, even while in the home, will also save homeowners money on their energy bill. They can also utilize blankets and fans as alternatives to prolonged heater and air conditioning use.

Should you have any questions about solar power systems or about how to reduce energy consumption and your electric bill please do not hesitate to contact us so that we may be of assistance!

Solar Power: Why And How Long

Occasionally some of our clients and prospective clients ask us both why we are able to utilize solar power and how long will solar power be a viable energy source. There are relatively simple answers that explain quite a bit and give customers who might otherwise remain apprehensive about purchasing a solar power system the go-ahead and peace of mind they need in order to purchase one.
As far as why we're able to utilize solar power goes, the sun being a star produces a tremendous amount of energy every second of every day. In fact just a small amount of energy from our closest star could power the entire planet for a long period of time that is if it could be harnessed to that great degree. Modern solar power focuses on capturing sunlight that beats down directly on the panels and converts it to usable electricity or energy for single home or building. Over the course of the 20th century and the last decade solar power technologies have advanced incredibly enabling families to both reduce electricity costs and in some cases eliminate their electric bill altogether.

So how long will human beings be able to utilize solar power? The answer is essentially a long as humans continue to exist. Undoubtedly the technology will continue to grow by leaps and bounds in the coming years and decades but solar energy is dependent on essentially one thing above all others, the sun. So long as the sun shines and continues to fuse heavier and heavier elements there will be energy available for capture and conversion. With a time frame of at least billions of years, were not going to lose the ability to utilize solar energy anytime soon.

Should you have any questions about solar energy are solar power systems for your home or for your business please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to answer them all!

Solar Energy

Without the sun, life on earth would cease to exist. Even the ancient civilizations knew this fact, and it appears that we are just finding that out here in America. The an-cients used what we now call passive solar energy. In other words they used the sun to light their homes in the daytime, and they normally slept when the earth turned away from the sun so it could light up the other side.

Now that we have electricity we can stay up and study all night long. Or watch television, or do whatever we desire because we are not limited. Some say that is what is wrong with our country; we don’t take time to rest like we should. But that’s another subject.

Our first consideration when we build our homes should be what direction they face. Are the windows placed where we can get the best results whether in winter or summer? The windows themselves are more efficient today with the double paned tinted glass. If your windows face west you get the direct sun from just past noon until dusk. Some prefer for the windows to face south, but they get the direct sun in the summer too.

Some of our options are to plant trees, but they take years to grow large enough to shade the house. Or we install barriers to hide the sun from our homes. We build brick around our homes, install tile floors, install ceiling fans, and we insulate the walls to keep the heat in or the cold out.

What are the options when you look at solar power? For one thing, it’s always there. For the second and third options, you won’t have high utility bills, and your source for power will be right there next to your home. The fourth option, solar panels will in-crease the value of your home.

You’ll still want some of those things around your home like trees and shrubs, and skylights, blinds on your windows, those things they consider passive, they add to the value of home too. Environmental issues are on the mind of most Americans, and many are promoting green ideas for your home. Whether new homes or improving older homes to make them more efficient,

Solar energy is but one way, and possibly the most effective and efficient way for you to have that power where you can control it. There may be government subsidies when you change your home to solar, just one more option.

Solar Power

Surprise! Surprise! Solar power comes from the sun. We are so accustomed to just flipping a switch to turn on a light, or power other electrical appliances that we rarely consider where the power is coming from. That is until we get the utility bill. Wouldn’t you like to be free of the utility companies?

Then when a car hits a utility pole or rain and high winds knock out your power and everyone else in your neighborhood, you will be asking the question is there an-other way.

There are two types of solar power. Passive power is when you use every means possible to create the natural power for your homes. For instance when you use sun-light to dry your clothes, and open windows to cool and light your house in the daytime, and close them at night for warmth, privacy and protection. They didn’t have electric lights, or even security. They protected themselves using bows and arrows, knives, swords and guns. People used passive power for thousands of years before active power was invented. There were no electric lights; they used candles or gas lamps. They spent their entire lives protecting and caring for their families, and searching for or growing their food. They didn’t know any other way to survive, so they used the sun to their advantage.

Today homes using active power use other sources for electricity. Because of that we have free time to do other things besides what our ancestors had to do to sur-vive.

Solar power uses the sun as well, and they also use pumps, blowers, and special boxes to deliver electricity to your home. The boxes are situated on the outside and are made of a dark metal that attracts the sun. The water or air that is carried in the pipes and ductwork is heated by this box that captures the sunlight. The heated air and water is then carried into your home.

Today everyone is talking about renewable resources. They tell us we are run-ning out of resources you know like oil and coal. They tell us we need to find other means to keep us in the lifestyle that we desire. Renewable resources consist of solar, wind, biomass, hydrogen, geothermal and hydropower.

Most of those resources need your utility companies. Solar Panels release you from those companies, and give you the electrical power to have your own source right on your own property. Just think, you can heat your own water, use all the electricity you want or need, and keep those appliances running. What could be better than that?
